The General Counsel, LLC

We founded The General Counsel, LLC in 2005 with a straightforward mission: to give fast-growth to mid-size businesses access to cost-effective in-house general counsel services. We wanted to help these businesses chart their growth and mitigate the risks associated with success. With more than 20 years of experience shaping our vision, we knew the assistance of such senior counsel is rarely available without the high cost of hiring a general counsel on staff or using the more expensive services of an outside, traditional hourly-rate law firm. In conceiving The General Counsel’s In-House Legal Solutions, we envisioned a model of placing industry proven, senior level attorneys on a full or part-time basis, allowing client companies to access in-house general counsel experience at a monthly retainer well below the cost of a traditional hourly rate firm.

The General Counsel’s In-House Legal Solutions struck a chord in the market. We were not the only ones who thought such a service could fit the needs of the innovation economy. Who else shared our vision? The executives of companies poised for great success — those who needed and wanted a custom model, sharp talent and willing partners in their companies’ growth.

The next natural evolution of The General Counsel’s In-House Legal Solutions was to help match great business lawyers with great potential employers.  In 2006, we founded The General Counsel Recruiting Services.  We now offer full-time in-house legal search and placement services in addition to our other in-house service – attorney interim placements or contract work on a full or part time basis.
